Learn New Wrestling Moves- Offseason Prep
So your High School Wrestling season is over, what to do now? If you are a senior the answer is simple, get ready for College and Give back to the wrestling community! Remember, it took dozens if not hundreds of people to get you where you are today in High School wrestling. If you are an underclassman then you need to prepare for Off season wrestling, this is what separates the bad from the good. The amount of work you put in with conditioning and picking up new wrestling moves will show when you step on the mat the 1st day of practice next year!
You have to remember that by and large off season wrestling is for development. Do NOT get to caught up in championship trophies or get too worried about tough opponents. Your goal is to improve the moves you were good with the year before and discover new moves that fit your style, strengths and personality.
If you feel you have a good Double Leg Tackle by all means continue to work on it, with variations. Vary the side you shoot from, vary your set ups, vary your finishes. All of these things will make your shot that much tougher to defend. If you feel you have an excellent double leg tackle, then work on another technique. Perhaps practice an ankle pick from the clinch or a fireman’s carry. There are any number of techniques that you can work on to expand your game.
Work on wrestling combinations. As mentioned before you should take time to learn some new wrestling moves, but also pick up some combinations along the way. Like the above mentioned ankle pick, as you practice it and learn to attack with the move, your opponents will also defend the move so why not go with an ankle pick attempt to a double leg in order to finish the takedown?
You will find that if you are a threat with multiple moves that in actuality it opens up opportunities to attack with your bread and butter moves as well!
Regardless if you are planning on working new Wrestling moves or sticking to your bread and butter, the best thing to do is get off the couch and keep wrestling! If you can do that then you will find that your next sea
